Three Reasons to Care About Star Wars

rise of the resistance

We’re in Disneyworld for the premiere of the new Rise of the Resistance attraction. It’s a BIG FREAKING DEAL. The most ambitious ride Disney has EVER done. But the question I get asked most frequently is “seriously KM, Star Wars?”

Give me 5 minutes and make you a Star Wars fan, I will.

Because – Baby Yoda

I know, it’s not technically part of “Star Wars”, it’s on “The Mandalorian” but that is NOT the point. If you want to get canonical, go to Reddit. Also, Baby Yoda memes are life.

Kylo Ren is Hot AF

Kylo Ren is every hot, dark, and troubled boyfriend you ever thought you could save. He did kill his own dad BUT we’re sure that he’s still a good guy, you know, on the inside. I mean, he’s still fighting with his mom, Princess Leia, but it’s probably because he just needs more love. And yes, I’m going to link to the YouTube where he hit on me, proving that he’s the #1 reason you should care about Star Wars. But also, Baby Yoda. Nerd facts, he is the Supreme Leader of the First Order (it’s like the old Empire, they have Stormtroopers). He killed his boss to get the job, bites bottom lip.

Princess Leia is the Ultimate #GirlBoss

You might only remember her needing to be saved when she was younger. But now, she’s the GD boss of The Resistance (like the Rebel Alliance, again, go to Reddit). Of course, by the time they let a chick be in charge, the whole thing was a hot mess. But she’s going to fix it, yes, from heaven. She is definitely in the next movie, and not as a hologram, it’s old footage. And nerds (myself included) are FREAKING OUT that there’s a picture of her with what looks like Anakin Skywalker’s lightsaber in the new trailer. Anakin became Darth Vader, as so many do.

There are many, many reasons to love Leia, but this story captures the best of Carrie Fisher and her character. It’s from an interview that was printed in Vanity Fair.

“George comes up to me the first day of filming and he takes one look at the dress and says, “You can’t wear a bra under that dress.”
So, I say, “Okay, I’ll bite. Why?”
And he says, “Because . . . there’s no underwear in space.”

What happens is you go to space and you become weightless. So far so good, right? But then your body expands??? But your bra doesn’t—so you get strangled by your own bra. Now I think that this would make for a fantastic obit—so I tell my younger friends that no matter how I go, I want it reported that I drowned in moonlight, strangled by my own bra.

I’m a guest of Disney this week to preview Star Wars: Rise of the Resistance, the groundbreaking new attraction inside Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge at Disney’s Hollywood Studios, opening Dec. 5, 2019, at Walt Disney World Resort in Florida. Guests join the Resistance in a climactic battle with the First Order, including a faceoff with Kylo Ren. (Bites lower lip)

Star Wars: Rise of the Resistance will open Jan. 17, 2020, at Disneyland Park in California. Read more about Galaxy’s Edge in Disneyland.
