The Gansevoort Turks and Caicos Review – Perfect for a Babymoon or Grown Up Getaway

The Gansevoort Turks and Caicos Review - Perfect for a Babymoon or Grown Up Getaway
Gansevoort Turks

Don’t we look happy without children?

Looking to get away from the snow, ice and your darling offspring?

The Gansevoort in Turks and Caicos is just what the doctor ordered.

Why Turks and Caicos?

Everything is done in dollars, English is the official language, it’s just 3 hours from New York AND it’s the third largest coral reef. We had breakfast in snowy New York and lunch on the beach last week. Need any more reasons? Exactly.

Not photoshopped. Really.

Why The Gansevoort?

This sleek white resort just oozes urban chic and sophistication. The pool is surrounded by baby mooning couples, young just marrieds or want to be marrieds and parents escaping their children. It must be the baby moon capital, I haven’t seen that many pregnant women since I was in my OB’s office. The bar opens early and the music flows from the palm trees all day long.

A serious welcome.

What you need to know:

Fly to Providenciales. This is one of the Turks and Caicos Islands. JetBlue has a daily flight from JFK. There are also direct flights from Boston, Toronto, Atlanta and more. Check the tourist board website for more direct flights.

You need a passport, it only needs to be valid for the time of travel. TCI is a British Protectorate.

Getting to the hotel is easy. The hotel can arrange a shared cab for you and it’s only a 10 minute drive from the airport.

$45 will score you this beach crash pad for the day

Book a few things ahead of time with the concierge:

Restaurants.Coco Bistro is the most popular restaurant on the island, for good reason, book at least a week ahead of time. Bay Bistro is equally good, and a little easier to get in to.

Horseback riding. Provo Ponies is the most extraordinary experience I’ve ever had. Yes that included giving birth, it’s that awesome. Book ahead of time, they will pick you up at the hotel, you get a 90 minute ride IN the ocean on your horse. My horse started swimming while I was on her. I’m not kidding you, I cried.

Bonnie was a rescue pony-isn’t she gorgeous?

Beach photos. Brilliant by Tropical Imaging can do a photo shoot wherever you like, on the beach, on a horse, on a boat. Every picture they take looks like something out of a magazine. We did a family photo shoot two years ago and they are some of my most treasured memories.  Is there any better souvenir than amazing photos? Ask for Andy, tell him I sent you.

Yoga. They have beach yoga every morning at 9:00am. It looked very popular judging by all the people walking by with yoga mats. I was too busy drinking watermelon mojitos and never made it to class. You’ll need to try it and give me some feedback, k? Or watch this video from super hot Kavita Channe of 1st Down and Dirty. She sent me her review of the Gansevoort and it inspired me to head down for a review, but not so much to do yoga. She makes pigeon pose in a bikini look easy.

Fish Fry. Every Thursday the island hosts a huge party called the Fish Fry. It’s right next door to the hotel and more than worth the visit. Of all the islands I have visited, and there have been a few, this is the only party I’ve ever been to that was truly a mix of locals and tourists. There are kiosks that sell jerk chicken and conch fritters, I recommend both. There’s a live band, some Junkanoo music, some awesome dancing by the islanders and a lot of white man overbite everywhere else. It’s a great time for all ages.

You can find more to do on all of the islands by checking out Island Life and Times. While there I spent a day exploring the caves on Middle Caicos, that story coming soon.

We were the guests of the Gansevoort  Turks and Caicos for review purposes. We paid for our own airfare and alcohol (no small cost). We were also provided one of our two horseback rides gratis. When asked for my best getaway recommendation it’s always Turks and Caicos.
